Said “shine” and then fade
was before the book was slammed closed

higher octaves, lower tolerance
better skin, tougher pain
which will cry first? Love or
the last time we looked at it
first and picked it first

under all, we sleep most comfortably in the dark
never perfect when the sun is high…
