The Lady on the Floor

Poem

It happened suddenly
like a painful unpredictable sunshine
in your eyes
the sight of the body
with uncovered arms
and breathless mouth
she was lying still
on the concrete
an immense beauty
in her eyes wide open
and white cheeks
the lady on the floor

I wondered who she was
or why she decided
it was time to go
while men in white
tried to convince her
not to live her life alone
she didn’t care
the lady on the floor

a hand closed her eyes
cars moved again
the sun shone on
it was the day I met
the lady on the floor
