Poem

I hope all have heard
Of how the battle was done
There were those who survived
And those who won

But you shoulda seen the battlefield
I thought it just couldn’t be real
Destiny written in blood
On their hearts and their handguns
Oh, what fun, what fun

Gonna set my feet in place
Take the double A’s and leave in case
I meet the morning face to face
But my alarm’s ringing

The living, they wept
Under the light of the moon
And a promise I’d kept, but had lost
Was reintroduced again

So I’m sifting through
What I once held to be true
But there’s dust on this heart
And I’m so overdue
And I like being used

Pockets full of keys and mace
Take the diamond rings encased
And I’ll leave this world without a trace
And now I’m thinking

This city’s just a name
A big machine
I’m coming clean, I know
This happened so long ago before me

But I’m still gonna
Find a secret place
Use the whole damn place
For unapologetic bouts of grace

Do you wanna be someone?
Or have they all been taken?
I can’t blame ’em at all
When they get that feeling

I hope all have heard
Of how the battle was done
There were those who survived
And those who won

Sensory writing for making sense of the nonsensical. My two cents are your free samples.
