On Change

Poem

One can never be sure when the metamorphosis has ended
Only acknowledge when the other, once like you, has flown away
How the change happened, one can’t be sure
The private process kept hidden
Secret
Away from the world
Until the other emerges
Facets of familiar personality still there but all the while
We carry that feeling
Deep-rooted
That this thing before us
Once so familiar
Does not even need to take to the winds with new wings
To be gone
