Be A Man

poem about being a man

Poem

Be a man
Be a man
Be a man
Be a man

Go to work
Pay the bills
Make the kill
Take the Meat
Show your worth
Stand up tall
Never fall
Never sleep

Be a man
Be a man
Be a man
Be a man

Close your eyes
Bury pain
Sever ties
Never weep
Take the strain
The abuse
Push it down
Swallow truth

Be a man
Be a man
Be a man
Be a man

Take the blame
Say sorry, you’ll
Find solace in
Your solitude
Make a plan
Follow through
Become a numb
And hollow you

Be a man
Be a man
Be a man
Be a man

Grow a hard
Protective skin
Panic when it’s
Wearing thin
Hide emotions
From your kin
Learn to never
let them in

Be a man
Be a man
Be a man
Be a man

Be a man
Pay your debts
Build a name
Gain respect
Play the game
Break a sweat
Pull your weight
Watch your step

Be a man
Be a man
Be a man
Be a man

Don’t let them spot
That you’re inept
Be careful not
To lose respect
You useless wreck
You neutered, feckless,
Henpecked, foolish,
Peutrid wretch

Be a man
Be a man
Be a man
Be a man

Put the noose
Around your neck
Slowly as you
Tip the chair
Feel the stretch
Teeter on the
Very edge

Be a man
Be a man
Be a man
Be a man

When I was seven I started copying poems out of a book and telling people they were mine. When I ran out of good ones to copy, I had to start writing my own. I have been performing and organising nights on the UK spoken word scene now for over seven years and am most of the way through writing the first draft of my first novel 'Zedlist', which is serialised on here. As the story is in fetal form, any critiques or suggestions are most welcome.
