Poem

…And the eye snapped shut.
The lid clamped down, protecting the lens-
from a foreign object
Blocking the sight-
of a familiar object
Keeping you safe, and me?
Outside of your head.

When the eye snapped shut,
I waited out here, hoping the lens-
would quickly clear.
Thinking that the air-
would slowly clear.
Keeping the pain of me…
Outside of your head.

Yet my widened eyes,
Couldn’t look away, watching the poison-
flow through the man.
Praying that it soon would-
flow out of the man.
Taking my memory
Outside of your head.
