Poem

It sparkled in the sun, causing brilliant colors to flash in all directions!
The small stone was set upon a large Rock along the road,
And all who passed stopped to look.

Most pointed from the path and remarked upon its presence.
“How came it to be here? We must tell the others of it!
Let us be sure to see if it is still there on our way back.”

Some ran to it and grasped it, lifting it to inspect it more closely.
But they were surprised by its weight, and grew tired of holding it.
After a few moments, they put it back and walked on.

Others scowled, shielding their eyes from the refractions.
They scattered dust over it to dull its shine, but rain and time
Always restored the little gem to its full glory.

One traveler, most intrepid, who approached with care,
Gathered it up and sought to keep it polished and safe.
But the edges of its facets cut his hands to ribbons.

Placing it back on its Pedestal, he sat down beside it.
She glittered, and he smiled, and the years went by.
And the Rock watched over them both together.
