Poem

With tears in your eyes
you told us stories
about friendship, war,
life and family.
So we don’t forget,
so you don’t forget
your life
that was already
fading away.

You came by every Sunday
with church bells
and cigarettes in your pockets
so we don’t forget,
so you don’t forget
who we are.

Time was flying from you
with every beat
and every gift
a year older
every twelve months.

Do not fear sweet man,
we will remember
the shadow of your smile
and the dust from your hands.
We will remember
the blue eyes
full of meadows
left to the sons of your sons
and the daughters of your daughters.
